Who are we?

Led by Emma Churchland and Dan Gough, IMRSE strives to tell stories in ways that only theatre can. Their work is enduringly engaging and unpredictable because it reinvents the roles of performer, audience and space – our work posits tasks and challenges for performer and audient alike, which unfold in real-time and form the foundations of the theatre event. IMRSE’s work is enduringly contemporary and experimental because it exploits and harnesses the aesthetics of liveness that remind us of the vital and unpredictable nature of theatre and its ability to destabilise and decentralise meaning. IMRSE believe that the joy of theatre is in positioning audiences inside the theatre world – not at its edges. Audiences should have their breath held and their hearts beating in rhythm with all who walk the stage by walking it with them.
